Endodontics Information

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry dealing with root canal related procedures. The procedures enable most teeth to be saved that may otherwise be lost.

Who performs endodontic treatment?

All dentists, including your general dentist, receive basic training in Root Canal Therapy. Your dentist may refer you to an endodontic specialist when the cases may be a little more complicated.

A Specialist has an additional two years of training. The procedures they perform include Root Canal Therapy, Retreatments, Apexification, Repair of resorptive defects, Apicoectomies and Diagnosis of orofacial pain of pulpal origin

Signs of needing Root Canal Therapy include:

  • Pain
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Tenderness above the tooth
  • Discomfort when chewing
  • Swelling
  • Sometimes there are no symptoms
